New Diving World Record

A new world record has been broken for the longest scuba dive by 27-year-old Bulgarian, Ivan Zhelezarov who spent a gruelling 50 hours submerged underwater.

The previous title of 48 hours, 9 minutes and 17 seconds went to the UK’s Will Goodman.

Ivan Zhelezarov began his attempt at 1:45pm on 27th August, diving eight metres into the sea near Kiten, on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria where he stayed underwater – even though the conditions were described as sever at times. He re-emerged on 29th August at 4pm. During his time submerged he took in liquid food to keep his energy levels up.

A team of nine people backed up the attempt by Ivan. One of their main jobs was making sure he had a supply of air cylinders.

Zhelezarov is said to be in good health and resting after achieving his new world record status.
